Hair loss is a common problem for both men and women. Although most hair thinning does not directly result to losing hair for women, it can cause a drastic change to her self-esteem. There are different causes of this condition and most of these can be controlled or reversed.

Hormonal imbalance is one cause of losing hair. Thyroid gland abnormal activities may result to hair loss and could be helped by treating the thyroid disease first.

Pregnancy could also lead to hormone imbalance which results to what stated above. This situation is quite normal and may go away after some time. Stress due to illness may also contribute to it and is only temporary.

Other drugs can cause hair loss. This can be treated by stopping the use of the drugs. Drugs that can cause baldness include anticoagulants or blood thinners, vitamin A, birth control pills or antidepressants. Some drugs used for the treatment of gout, or those that are used in chemotherapy may also trigger this.

Some infections can also activate hair loss. Infections caused by fungus on the scalp can be the cause for children to have that condition. This can be easily treated by antifungal medicines.

Hair loss can also be caused by other diseases like diabetes or lupus. It is therefore essential to find out the exact causes for your unique situation, so that it can be treated accordingly.

Too tight pigtails can also cause women to lose their hair. If too much pulling is stopped before scarring of the hair follicles happen, then the hair would grow back normally. Chemicals used for hair treatments may also cause some of your hair to fall.
